Dragonfly & Stitch's Origin Story

Dragonfly and Stitch Designs, founded in 2020, was inspired by my kiddo's constant frustration over the lack of pockets in ready-to-wear dresses and skirts. My child, S, complained that they had nowhere to store all of their playground treasures, from pine cones to snail shells. I was also motivated by a desire to move away from "fast fashion" for our family, by making clothes that are built to last. So, I cracked out the sewing machine I purchased in high school and began brushing up on the skills I'd learned from my mother, a professionally trained seamstress. After a couple years of sewing for S, I had an increasing number of friends and colleagues asking for similar dresses, especially ones with science-themed prints and inclusive designs. Thus, Dragonfly and Stitch was born! I've since upgraded my equipment and honed my techniques, but the basic skills I learned from my dear mother continue to guide me in the making of each garment I sell--each of which is made, inspected and shipped by yours truly! I pride myself on using the highest-quality custom and/or organic fabric, making many designs that are gender-inclusive, and believing that a dress or skirt #musthavepockets. Dragonfly and Stitch is a lesbian-owned company; I believe representation matters and that you can run a successful business without compromising your ethics.
